Jill, the author of the blog "Compassion Family", is a fellow Compassion advocate who I traveled with to Peru. Her blog discusses ways that she integrates lessons about other cultures and poverty into her family life. She offers great suggestions of how to improve your sponsorship, like suggestions of books to get from your library to help teach your children about the cultures of other lands (I have one such book on hold at my library now). She even hosts give aways, like this correspondence kit give away and books like "Too Small To Ignore".
In August, she is hosting a community read through/review of the book "Too Small To Ignore" and has asked fellow advocates, like myself, to take chapters to discuss on her blog. My guest post will be appearing next week and I will share those with you here soon as well.
BUT, I said all that to introduce the reason I started this blog post in the first place.
Like many families who are Compassion sponsors, Jill also fills shoe boxes for Samaritan's Purse at Christmas time. In her blog post Shoe Box Time - Operation Christmas Child, she points out that back-to-school shopping time is the perfect time to pick up things for these boxes. So, as I picked up my children's crayons at 40 cents a pack, I also picked up a couple other boxes for my shoe boxes. If you are like me, I am often running out the week before these boxes are due, scrambling to buy the stuff and get them packed before the date they are due. So, buying now will help me get a head start.
Thanks to Jill for the great suggestion!

Also, there is a picture of a Compassion LDP student who she corresponds with receiving a shoe box gift as a child, while he was also being sponsored through the Compassion CDSP program.
Just found you from Jill's blog. Thanks for sharing. It is so encouraging to me.... to find others who speak out on behalf of Compassion. I am a new Advocate. Jill was/is so very helpful!
Thanks for sharing,
